Mom's Tea Party (work in progress)
Size: 36"H x 36"W 2009 (in progress)
Acrylic on canvas

Mom's Tea PartyThis painting is a very emotional memory/fantasy around one of my mother's Alzheimer's incidents.

My mother passed away about six years ago, but I still remember those bizarre disturbing and funny moments so vividly.

This picture is a reminder of the time my mother spent the weekend with us to be with her cats (Chico & Zsa Zsa, pictured in the painting).

She was very frail and stiff and it took me about 45 minutes to get her into her clothes in the morning.

I got her a cup of lukewarm coffee (afraid she'd spill and hurt herself), and sat her down at the kitchen table with her two cats, who sat on the table where she could pet them....

I ran to the back of the house to get dressed myself. Not wanting to leave her alone for very long, I threw on a pair of overalls, socks and slip-on tennies, flung my hair into a pony, and ran back out into the kitchen.

Imagine my surprise to find her serenely sitting, holding the chair with one hand, and her coffee cup in the other hand -- STARK NAKED.

It was like some crazy magic trick. I couldn't believe it. It took so long to get her dressed! How could she whip off every stitch in what felt like maybe 7 minutes' time?!!

Kitties looked up at me quietly. She looked at me quietly. It was just weird and disturbing and funny. It still brings tears to my eyes.

I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride. She said, Oh, yes! I said You know you have to wear clothes to go for a ride, right? She looked momentarily confused and said sadly, Oh, I don't know.... I plan to do a series on these Alzheimer's moments. I find painting to be a very cathartic expression for such trying emotional experiences. For all the therapy I've been through, painting handles my issues more effectively.

Mental Margarita 2007
24" x 24" Acrylic on board

Mental Margarita
Only a Mural Class exercise, but I put it up in my bathroom, as it's very relaxing to contemplate. I swear I can hear the waves sloshing and wind gusting, as I look at it!

Reworking of a Grohe Mural (personalization)
Original Size 30" H x 40" W 2008
acrylic on canvas

This painting was created in Jackie Ingrassia's wonderful faux painting and mural painting classes (Faux Finishing classes) at the West Valley Occupational Center, in the Los Angeles, CA, area.

This started out to be a straight copy of an Eric Grohe mural, but I became bored with a straight copy assignment, and turned it into my own statement, by adding myself into the image, one of my cats, and completely faking a Latin inscription for "Follow Your Bliss".

I enjoyed working on this painting very much.

Jenny's Clouds
18" x 18" Acrylic on canvas

Jenny's Clouds
This I painted for a lovely friend who is a schoolteacher and mad-fun to work with.

I just realized that when I paint sort of stream of consciousness, I have a tendency to make birds with my clouds! Still fun.....

Thank you and I'll be adding more images, web sites and movies soon.
